BINGHAMTON, N.Y. — Binghamton University is adding women’s flag football to its athletics program following the NCAA’s recognition of it as an emerging women’s sport.
The addition will bring the university’s total to 22 varsity teams, evenly split with 11 men’s and 11 women’s sports. The first season of women’s flag football is scheduled for the spring 2028 semester. The sport will be included in the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.
Athletics Director Eugene Marshall Jr. said the move will create new opportunities for female athletes and give young women in elementary and high school a pathway to compete at the collegiate level, positioning Binghamton as a potential destination for prospective student-athletes.
