    • New York State Senator Lea Webb, a Democrat and Binghamton native, has announced her reelection campaign for a third term, representing Senate District 52, which includes Ithaca, Cortland, and Binghamton, at a fundraising event in Binghamton called the People’s Purple Ball.
    • Senator Webb has been representing Senate District 52 since 2023 and has highlighted her achievements, including securing funding for organizations across the district, such as $400,000 for the Food Bank of the Southern Tier, in her statement announcing her reelection campaign.
    • Webb chairs the New York State Senate’s Women’s Issues Committee and is also a member of the state Senate’s mental health, higher education, and health committees, demonstrating her commitment to various important issues.
    • The senator’s announcement was made at an event where New York State Attorney General Letitia James appeared as a speaker, and Webb emphasized the need for leaders who are ready to stand up and fight for democracy, reproductive justice, and a New York where everyone has a seat at the table.
    • Democrats have a strong advantage in District 52, with Joe Biden capturing 60% of the vote in the 2020 presidential election, and Webb has won her previous elections with 52% of the vote in 2022 and 58% of the vote in 2024.
    • As of now, no clear Republican opponent has emerged to challenge Senator Webb, and she is currently the only candidate registered to represent District 52 with the New York State Board of Elections.
    • Senator Webb’s background includes growing up in Binghamton and holding a bachelor’s degree in Neuroscience from Binghamton University, which has likely influenced her commitment to public service and her work in the state Senate.
