TOWN OF OVID, N.Y. — A head-on collision on County Road 131 injured five people early Tuesday morning after a driver lost control on a curve, the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office said.

Deputies responded to the two-vehicle crash near West Wycoff Road at approximately 6:47 a.m.

According to Sheriff Tim Thompson, Nathaniel B. Wickham, 24, of Watkins Glen, was driving a 2012 Chevrolet Cruze northbound when he attempted to navigate a slight right-hand turn. Wickham lost control of the vehicle, which slid into the southbound lane and struck a 2010 Toyota Sienna head-on.

The driver of the Toyota, Juan D. Lopez-Hernandez, 43, of Geneva, and his three passengers were injured. Authorities identified the passengers, all Geneva residents, as:

    • Antonio A. Aguilera, 52
    • Israel Zavala, 30
    • Alfonso Mosqueda-Zavala, 30

All five individuals involved in the crash were transported by ambulance to local hospitals for treatment.

Both vehicles sustained heavy damage and were towed from the scene. The road was blocked in both directions during the investigation and cleanup.

The Ovid, Lodi, and Interlaken fire departments assisted at the scene, along with South Seneca, Trumansburg, and Bangs ambulance crews.
