NASSAU COUNTY, N.Y. — President Donald Trump has officially endorsed Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman in the race for New York governor, offering his “complete and total” support as Blakeman becomes the Republican Party’s sole candidate following Rep. Elise Stefanik’s withdrawal.

Trump praised Blakeman as a steadfast ally, describing him as “MAGA all the way” and expressing confidence in his ability to win the November election. The endorsement came shortly after Stefanik announced she was exiting the gubernatorial race and would not seek reelection to Congress, leaving Blakeman as the lone Republican contender.

Blakeman, who entered the race earlier this month, welcomed Trump’s backing, calling it a blessing and emphasizing their shared commitment to making New York safer and more affordable. He also secured the endorsement of Ed Cox, chair of the New York Republican Committee, further consolidating his position within the party.

Democratic Governor Kathy Hochul responded critically to the endorsement, asserting that Blakeman would prioritize Trump’s agenda over the interests of New Yorkers. Hochul characterized Blakeman as a “MAGA sellout” unlikely to succeed in the state’s gubernatorial race.

Recent polling by Siena College indicates that Hochul maintains a significant lead over both Blakeman and Stefanik in head-to-head matchups, with her advantage over Blakeman notably larger.

As the November election approaches, Blakeman faces the challenge of uniting Republican voters and mounting a competitive campaign against the incumbent governor.
