    About Rewired/NY

Connecting New Yorkers to the Stories That Matter

Rewired/NY is a news service dedicated to bringing high-quality local journalism to communities across New York State. In an era when local newsrooms are shrinking and important stories go untold, we’re building something different: a collaborative network of experienced journalists committed to covering the issues that shape daily life in our communities.

    Our Mission

We believe that strong communities need strong journalism. Rewired/NY exists to inform, engage, and empower New Yorkers with the news and information they need to participate fully in civic life. From city halls to school boards, from economic development to environmental challenges, we cover the stories that affect real people in real places.

    A Collaborative Approach

Rewired/NY draws on some of the best journalists in New York State, bringing together experienced reporters, editors, and storytellers who know their communities intimately. Our collaborative model allows us to pool resources, share expertise, and deliver comprehensive coverage that no single newsroom could provide alone.

We partner with local news organizations, community groups, and civic institutions to ensure our journalism reaches the people who need it most. By working together, we can tackle complex stories, provide deeper context, and hold those in power accountable.

    Nonprofit Journalism, Public Service

As a nonprofit organization, Rewired/NY is not driven by clicks, profits, or corporate interests. We answer to our communities and our commitment to the public good. This independence allows us to focus on what matters: accurate, fair, and thorough reporting that serves the public interest.

    Our Coverage

From the Southern Tier to the North Country, from the Hudson Valley to Western New York, Rewired/NY covers the full breadth of New York State. We report on:

    • Local government and policy decisions
    • Economic development and workforce issues
    • Education and public health
    • Environmental and infrastructure challenges
    • Arts, culture, and community life
    • Accountability and investigative reporting

    Get Involved

Strong journalism requires strong community support. Whether you’re a reader, a source, a partner organization, or a potential supporter, we invite you to be part of the Rewired/NY community.
