ULYSSES, N.Y. — A 10-year-old girl who was the subject of an intensive search in the Town of Ulysses on Thursday morning has been located safely, authorities said.
The Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office announced that Joanne Washburn was found off Rabbit Run Road near Trumansburg. She was found “late Thursday morning,” according to the announcement.
Deputies had responded to the 5000 block of Cold Springs Road around 6:30 a.m. after the girl’s parents reported she was missing. According to Sheriff Derek Osborne, the parents last saw her at approximately 6 p.m. Wednesday and discovered she was not in her room Thursday morning.
The disappearance triggered a multi-agency search after the girl failed to arrive at school. A witness told investigators they may have seen a child matching the girl’s description walking along Trumansburg Road at approximately 1 a.m. Thursday.
Law enforcement officials said the case did not meet the specific criteria for an Amber Alert, but a New York State Missing Child Alert had been issued before she was found.
Authorities did not immediately release further details regarding the circumstances of her disappearance.
