ITHACA -- Emerson DeMeester-Lane has been appointed director of Tompkins County Public Library and plans to focus on strengthening connections among libraries across the county, according to the Ithaca Times.
DeMeester-Lane said he aims to build stronger ties with rural libraries and hold regular meetings with area directors to improve collaboration in 2026. He described libraries as vital community hubs and key providers of digital access.
Libraries throughout the county are preparing for summer reading programs, expanded community partnerships and possible building projects. Lansing and Newfield libraries are exploring additional space, Groton is joining a national summer learning cohort, and Southworth and Ulysses libraries are planning events including Pi Day celebrations and repair cafés.
