He committed to collaborating with federal immigration authorities to remove undocumented immigrants who violate the law, a stance he credits with helping him secure majority support among Hispanic and Latino voters in Nassau County.
The exit of Stefanik from the race alters the dynamics of the Republican primary and the general election. Political analysts suggest that without a primary contest between Stefanik and Blakeman, incumbent Governor Kathy Hochul may face a different challenge.
