NEWFIELD, N.Y. — A new mother-and-daughter-owned business has opened its doors in Newfield, bringing fresh baked goods and a community-focused coffee shop to town.

Morning Moon Coffee & Bakery, located at 7 Bridge St., is run by Amy and Shea Heffron. The shop offers a full menu of coffee drinks, breakfast sandwiches on croissants, bagels or biscuits, and daily toast options such as avocado and peanut butter. The bakery case features staples like plain, chocolate and almond croissants, along with rotating homemade treats.

Hours are Monday 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., Tuesday through Friday 7 a.m. to 11 a.m., and Saturday 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The venture marks a return to the food industry for the Heffron family, who previously owned The Covered Bridge Market before selling it during the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic. Amy proposed the new shop, and Shea — a seventh-grade ELA teacher at Newfield Middle School — quickly supported the idea, noting the lack of a dedicated coffee shop in town.

The shop’s name honors their late friend Carmen “Moon” Ciaschi, who loved espresso. The Heffrons also plan to display original menus from Amy’s grandfather’s former restaurant, Joe’s Restaurant, in a vintage room at the café. Shea said she hopes to create a calm, welcoming space for the community, including a book nook with free donated books.
